Cassina
A near synonym for classic Italian design; Cassina has been a lead manufacturer of contemporary furniture since it was established in the northern Italian town of Meda in 1927. In an innovative approach for the time, brothers and founders Cesare and Umberto Cassina used the 1950s to shift their focus from artisanal craftsmanship to serial manufacturing, thus launching industrial design in Italy and transforming Medea into a geographic centre for furniture production. Cassina continues its quest for innovative, long-lasting designs that promote psycho-physical wellbeing with an ongoing commitment to collaborations via the Cassina LAB programme. The circular and sustainable project includes an ongoing partnership with Milan’s Poli.Design consortium, as well as a collection of modular furniture designed by the late Virgil Abloh. The latter, titled “Modular Imagination”, presents a range of intentionally ambiguous blocks that serve as versatile homeware pieces that arrive ready to be isolated, connected, moved, used, reused and recycled.
